Dvalishvili got into a fight with Sterling before his fight with Sejudo

The fight with Henry Cejudo at UFC 298 this past weekend in Anaheim was Merab Dvalishvili’s second fight of the night, as the Georgian fighter had a nearly full-on fight with his friend and sparring partner Aljamain Sterling as a warm-up before entering the octagon.

Dvalishvili’s trainer, Ray Longo, talked about it on the next edition of the John Enick and Kenny Florian podcast.

“He literally fought Aljo for three rounds,” said the American specialist. “It was bloody brutal – they were chopping with little gloves. Aljo sometimes complains about my boxing lessons, but what I saw was much tougher. They went three for five, so yeah, for Merab it was the second fight of the night for him.”

The challenger bout between Henry Sehudo and Merab Dvalishvili went all three rounds and ended with the latter winning by unanimous 29-28 three round decision. At the post-event press conference, UFC head Dana White announced that the next opponent for the Georgian representative will be the winner of the title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera, which will take place March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami.
