Dustin Puryear has made a statement about his imminent return to the octagon

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Porier, who suffered an early defeat in a challenger’s bout against Justin Gaethje a month ago, is set to return to the octagon before the end of this year.

“I will fight again this year,” “Diamond” wrote on social media.

On July 29 at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Justin Gaethje knocked out Dustin Porier with a leg kick to the head in the second round, becoming the BMF titleholder and prime candidate to fight the winner of the title fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira.

After the fight, Puryear stated that he would fight his next fight at welterweight, and then made it clear that he was willing to stick around in the lightweight division if he was allowed to complete his trilogy with Gaethje.

Dustin Porier is currently ranked third in the UFC’s lightweight rankings.
