Nevertheless, if Dustin Porier upsets and takes the championship belt from Islam Makhachev on June 1 at UFC 302 in Newark, and Conor McGregor soundly defeats Michael Chandler on June 29 at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, the league’s top brass may decide they need a fourth fight and will surely find a compelling argument to get “The Diamond” to change his mind on the matter.
Conor McGregor lost twice to Dustin Puryear in 2021 – in January by knockout in the second round and in July after suffering a severe leg fracture at the end of the opening five minutes.
Their first fight took place seven years earlier in the welterweight division and ended with the American losing by technical knockout in the first round.
