Dustin Poirier: “I could fall asleep, not knock, show my toughness, but what would it give me?”

Former UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier has spoken out about a strangulation episode against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269.

“He quickly took back. I didn’t want to knock. Of course he didn’t. I was stiff and could sleep peacefully. But what would it give me? I have been doing this sport for a long time to understand when I was checked out. I just ended up in the worst position I could be in with such an opponent. Although I spent a lot of hours at the camp with guys on my back trying to choke me. He wasn’t super strong or fast, but he was stronger than I thought,” Poirier said on The MMA Hour.

On December 11, Poirier lost to Charles Oliveira via rear naked choke at UFC 269.
