Dustin Poirier confirms readiness to fight Islam Makhachev

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has made it clear that his appeal to Islam Makhachev has a purpose and is not just an attempt to draw attention to himself.

“Lol, are they going to keep giving Dustin title fights until he finally wins?” one fan wrote, reacting to an American appeal to the UFC lightweight champion.

“That’s the plan,” Poirier replied.

“You will lose again in the third round!” Another fan suggested.

“Back choke?” retorted “Diamond”.

In the past, Dustin Poirier has made two unsuccessful attempts to capture the reigning UFC lightweight title, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira by rear naked choke in the third round.

The American fighter closed his last title defeat in November last year, finishing with a rear naked choke in the third round of his compatriot Michael Chandler.

Islam Makhachev, who last year won the vacant title in a confrontation with Oliveira, made his first defense of the championship belt on February 11, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
