Former world light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver does not see the American David Benavides (26-0, 23 KOs) as a threat to the undisputed middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) from Mexico Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) .
Antonio is confident that Benavidez’s style is perfect for Canelo not only to win, but to do it ahead of schedule.
“The style of David Benavidez is tailor-made for Canelo. He’ll be within reach for all that hot shit to the body and head. Benavidez just doesn’t have the movement to level Canelo’s cards, Tarver believes. “He’s not as big as Bivol, and he doesn’t have the same technical skills as Bivol. So there is nothing to compare here. Canelo can stop Benavidez.”
Recall that on May 8, Alvarez unsuccessfully rose to light heavyweight, having been defeated by WBA Super title holder Dmitry Bivol on points.
Meanwhile, Benavides’ promoter addressed the media: “Stop fantasizing about Canelo.”
