Derrick Lewis was arrested ten days before his fight with Jailton Almeida

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis, who is set to face Brazilian Jailton Almeida as early as this weekend at UFC Fight Night 231 in Sao Paulo, was arrested last week and charged with a misdemeanor.

Police arrested the American heavyweight on Oct. 25 for multiple speeding and dangerous driving. According to court records, the “Black Beast” was driving a red Lamborghini at 136 mph (219 km/h) in a 50 mph (80 km/h) restricted zone while unsafely changing lanes and making lane changes.

Derrick Lewis was released on $100 bail hours after his arrest, and will be due back in court on December 27. According to the social networks of the world’s strongest league, the American is currently in Brazil, so his fight with Almeida is not threatened.

Recall that “The Black Beast” headlined the organization’s Brazilian event, agreeing to replace his compatriot and former rival Curtis Blades, who was injured and dropped out of the tournament scheduled for November 4.
