Deontay Wilder lost to Joseph Parker, fight with Anthony Joshua canceled

A scheduled March bout between former world boxing champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder has been canceled after the American boxer suffered a sensational defeat at a big night of boxing held in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

In the second most important event of the event, Deontay Wilder was unable to oppose New Zealand’s Joseph Parker, who defeated “The Bronze Bomber” by unanimous decision with scores of 120-108 and 118-111 twice after twelve rounds in dominant style.

In the eighth round, Parker stunned Wilder with a right overhand that caused problems for the American throughout the fight, however, he was unable to build on the success and drop his opponent. Wilder, who was working as the number two, was looking for an opportunity to land a right jab throughout the fight, but never got his chance.

Unlike Wilder, Anthony Joshua did not upset his fans and in the main event of the event won a convincing victory over Otto Vallin, whom he beat for five rounds, forcing the Swede’s corner at halftime to refuse to continue.

After the fight, the promoter of the Briton, Eddie Hearn, stated that they were interested in a fight with undefeated Croatian Filip Hrgovic, who in the same card already knocked out Mark De Mori in the first round.

Recall that the fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder was to take place on March 9 in Riyadh.
