Deontay Wilder issued a statement after the defeat

Former WBC heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder, who suffered a surprise defeat against New Zealand’s Joseph Parker, has not ruled out hanging up his gloves.

“We’ll see what happens next, I may still have something left, but I’ve done a great job managing my money and investing,” the American said in a post-fight interview. “I’m a warrior, and I’ll be back soon. If not, it’s been an exciting journey that has been enjoyable for me. I appreciate the love and support people have given me over the years.”

As for the reasons for the disappointing performance, Wilder doesn’t rule out that the hype surrounding his scheduled fight against Anthony Joshua may have been a distraction.

“I felt I did enough to win the fight, but I definitely had timing issues and I have to give credit to Joseph who was doing a great job of getting away from my punches. Talking about the fight against Joshua could have been a distraction, but we did what we did and we’ll move on”

Recall that the fight between Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker, which became the second most important event of the evening of boxing in Riyadh, went the full distance and ended with the defeat of “The Bronze Bomber” unanimous decision with the score 120-108 and 118-111 twice.
