The head of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, questioned the adequacy of the decision of his star lightweight Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) after the puncher’s decision to go straight to the megafight in the spring against Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 15 KOs) – without any – a warm-up fight.

Ryan was originally supposed to fight Mercito Gesta on January 21, but the Californian recently said that he was not interested in this fight, and he would just wait for the April fight with Davis. Meanwhile, Gervonta will face Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 (16-0, 10 KOs).

“Tank will have a prep fight, his tools will be sharpened when he faces Ryan in April,” De La Hoya said.
FightHype. – Garcia decided to bypass the setting and go straight to the “Tank”. I’m convinced it’s a big mistake.”

However, says the promoter, it’s the fighter’s decision and “what we should all do is wish him well and stay fit, keep training, keep sparring, stay focused.”

“Tank” will kill Garcia, says fighter, once terribly knocked out in the 1st round

At the same time, the American has not had a busy schedule for the last couple of years. He last entered the ring on July 16, when he knocked out Javier Fortuna in the sixth round, and three months before he defeated Emmanuel Tagoe in 12 rounds. Prior to these two fights, Garcia had not fought for 15 months due to injury and mental health issues.
