Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona, USA. In the main event of the show, the vacant belt of the “interim” WBC middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) was played by American David Benavides (26-0, 23 KOs) and David Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs) from Canada.
The fighters looked like representatives of completely different weight divisions. Puncher from Canada made a couple of attempts to close the distance, but picked up blows in the last seconds of the round and was badly shaken.
At the start of the second three-minute period, Lemieux was knocked down and almost flew out of the ring. The bloodied Canadian got to his feet, continued the fight and tried to return blows with blows, but what was happening still looked like not a fight, but a beating.
In the 3rd round, the referee could not stand it – he intervened and stopped the fight. Looks like the towel was thrown in Lemieux’s corner. Well done, it was the only right decision.
Benavidez TKO 3.
