American UFC lightweight Beneil Dariush reacted to the news that his upcoming opponent from Russia Islam Makhachev will receive a double bonus for an early victory.
Earlier this was announced in an interview with ESPN by Makhachev’s friend and teammate, ex-UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Khabib dramatizes, saying that Islam [Махачев] will receive a double bonus in the event of an early win,” Dariusz told ESPN. “In doing so, he puts on a fuss and a show, and it’s actually great and fun. You know, I wanted to make a joke by calling Ali [Абдель-Азизу, менеджер Дариуша и Махачева — Прим. «СЭ”] and telling him: “Listen Ali, give me Khabib’s number, since I want to offer him to become my manager, because I don’t understand why my opponent will receive a double bonus?” Of course I’m kidding. The reality is that I, like Makhachev, will receive a double bonus in case of an early victory. It’s all spelled out in our fight contract. So it’s not a past-drama show. The way Khabib presents it is not something personal. I’m not against. Moreover, I appreciate him for it.”
Dariush and Makhachev will headline the UFC Fight Night tournament, which will be held on the night of February 27 in the United States. The fight will consist of five rounds, and the winner will become the next contender for the UFC title.
Dariush has 21 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. Makhachev has 21 wins and 1 loss.
