Daniel Cormier: “There’s no denying that Islam Makhachev is the best fighter in the world”

After an impressive win over Alexander Volkanovski, current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, should top the list of the organization’s best fighters regardless of weight class, former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier believes.

“Nobody expected this result,” the American said in another video posted on his Youtube channel. “But Islam went out there and did it. We talk about the status of the best fighter regardless of weight class, and Islam Makhachev showed that he is the best because he beat the best. Alexander Volkanovski is a real beast and the way Islam beat him shows that he is the best in the world”

“People are bound to start wondering, will he be a better world champion than Khabib? Will he become the greatest lightweight of all time? It’s going to take a little more time to find out, but there’s already no denying that Islam Makhachev is the best fighter in the world regardless of weight class. Just based on exactly how he won that fight. It was incredible.”

Earlier, an updated ranking of the world’s strongest league was published, according to which the Russian lightweight failed to dislodge Jon Jones from the top of the UFC’s P4P list, rising only to second place in the ranking of the organization’s best fighters regardless of weight class.

As a reminder, the lightweight title superfight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, which headlined last weekend’s UFC 294 event in Abu Dhabi, ended at the 3:06 mark of the first round after the Russian stunned the Australian with a leg kick to the head and then finished him in the parterre.
