Daniel Cormier: “Sean O’Malley is the second coming of Conor McGregor”

Former dual UFC champion, Daniel Cormier, believes that current UFC flyweight titleholder, Sean O’Malley, coming off an early victory over Aljamain Sterling this past weekend, has what it takes to become to the world’s strongest league what Conor McGregor was to it.

“I was talking to Sean the week before and I asked him what his ideal Saturday night looked like, how the story ends this weekend, and he told me, ‘I’m going to knock him out,'” Cormier said in another video posted on his YouTube channel. “And it was hard to believe because we were talking about a guy named Aljamain Sterling who had never been knocked out since he got hit with a knee, but Sean O’Malley did it with an arm punch. He was able to masterfully pull away and land a right kick that ended the champion’s reign. The arena was in awe of this guy. No fooling around – he’s practically the second coming of Conor McGregor.”

“And when I talk about the second coming of Conor McGregor, that’s a really good thing. Sean doesn’t have to fight those comparisons. As he said in the interview, ‘Conor’s rich, Conor’s doing a great business,’ and Sean O’Malley can do all the same things. He showed this weekend that he has the fighting ability to not only win the championship belt, but possibly reign in the division for a long time because the man he beat had the most title defenses in UFC lightweight history”

As a reminder, the lightweight title fight headlining UFC 292 in Boston ended at the 0:51 mark of the second round with Sean O’Malley winning by technical knockout.
