Former dual UFC champion Daniel Cormier is confident that the upcoming fight with Paulo Costa should become a challenger for Khamzat Chimaev, and if he wins, lead the Chechen fighter to the winner of the title fight between Israel Adesanya and Drikus Du Plessis.
“If Khamzat Chimaev beats Paulo Costa, he deserves a middleweight title fight,” the American said in another video posted on his YouTube channel. “And I don’t think anyone can disagree with that”
“I believe that beating Gilbert Burns and then Paulo Costa gives you the opportunity to fight for the title. This makes you the number one contender and leads to the winner of the fight between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis.”
Recall that the fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa will take place on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, and Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis were supposed to head the UFC 293 tournament in Sydney on September 9, however, it is possible that in this fight the injured South African can be replaced by American Sean Strickland.
