Former two-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier believes former opponent Jon Jones needs to grow as thick skin as possible if he is to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title against Cyril Gan.
“Isn’t it ironic that Jon Jones is fighting for the vacant title?” Cormier was quoted as saying by MMAnews. “Do you remember what I went through when I won the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in 2015 that was taken away from John? It’s different now because John hasn’t fought Francis before, but isn’t it ironic that he’s in this situation now?”
“My advice to you, John, is that if you win the fight, go thick skinned. Because people will be ruthless… They will ask the question, ‘Is he a real champion? Because he didn’t beat Francis Ngannou. It will definitely happen if he beats Cyril Gan, which is not guaranteed at all, because Cyril Gan is very good.”
Recall that the fight between Jon Jones and Cyril Gan, who will have the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt vacated by Francis Ngannou who left the organization, will headline the UFC 285 tournament in Las Vegas on March 4.
