Dana White has announced the first fight of the UFC 300 tournament

The head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White, promised that the first fight of the UFC 300 tournament will delight fans, and kept his word, announcing the first fight of the anniversary event confrontation between two former champions of the organization.

According to the UFC executive, Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueredo will open the show.

“It’s been difficult because I want to present the best card we’ve ever put together,” White told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Every fight on the card right now has the potential to be the main event of either a Fight Night Series tournament or a numbered event. The firstprelim on the card will be the Garbrandt vs. Figueredo fight. What does that tell you?”

Last December, former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueredo made a successful debut in the UFC’s lightweight division, winning a unanimous decision over Rob Font in dominant fashion over three rounds.

Cody Garbrandt, who held the UFC lightweight title, goes on a two-fight win streak, winning by unanimous decision over Trevin Jones, and knocking out Brian Kelleher in the first round.

As a reminder, UFC 300 takes place April 13 in Las Vegas and remains without a main event for now.
