Dana White Explains Colby Covington's Appearance at UFC 286 Weigh-ins

UFC President Dana White has responded to a question about whether Colby Covington’s surprise appearance at the UFC 286 weigh-ins is because the American welterweight will challenge the winner of a title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, which he is backing.

“I don’t know this yet, but it’s clear that Colby remains one of the best in the world,” the head of the organization told reporters in London. “Yes, we have a spare fighter, and I would not say that we kept it a secret. They just didn’t ask us about it.”

“My son called me asking, ‘Daddy, I don’t understand what’s going on? Why is Colby Covington at the weigh-in?’ and I said to him, ‘We always have a fallback for a fight like this, it just never got as much attention as the appearance of Colby'”

Colby Covington last entered the octagon in March last year, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision in five rounds. The 35-year-old American is currently ranked second in the UFC welterweight division.
