Cyril Gun has moved Sergey Pavlovich up in the UFC heavyweight rankings

Former interim UFC heavyweight champion Cyril Gun, coming off an early victory over Sergey Spivak this past weekend, moved up one position in the UFC heavyweight rankings, sharing the division’s top spot with Russian Sergey Pavlovic.

The Moldovan heavyweight, who lost to the Frenchman by technical knockout in the second round at UFC Fight Night 226 in Paris, has moved up to eighth place, losing the seventh spot to Russian Alexander Volkov.

The updated ranking is available on the organization’s official website.

With the victory, Cyril Gan put his career back on track after a failed attempt to win the vacant championship belt against Jon Jones, to whom he lost by guillotine choke as early as the first round in March of this year.

Sergey Pavlovich picked up his sixth straight knockout victory in April with a first-round submission of Curtis Blades, and the Russian is currently preparing for UFC 295, where he will be insuring a title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Alexander Volkov could move up at least one more spot in the rankings in a week’s time if he defeats Australia’s Ty Tuivasa, ranked sixth in the division’s top ten, this weekend at UFC 293 in Sydney.
