Cormier's reaction to Jones' return and Ngannou's departure from the UFC

Former dual UFC champion Daniel Cormier is not thrilled that Francis Ngannou has retired from the world’s strongest league, but he is pleased that in less than two months the vacant UFC heavyweight title, vacated by the Cameroonian, will be contested by Jon Jones and Cyril Gan.

“I think Jon Jones will get a stylistically more difficult fight with Cyril Gun,” DC said in a video posted on his Youtube channel. “I hate that Francis is gone, but I love that Jones is finally at heavyweight and I love it even more that this is a fight against Cyril Gan. But I don’t like that Stipe Miocic somehow got lost in this alignment.”

“From conversations behind the scenes, I know how much effort went into making a deal with Francis Ngannou – all options were tried. The deal with Ngannou was not made because Francis knows what he wants to do and knows his price.”

Last weekend at a press conference after the UFC Fight Night 217 tournament, UFC President Dana White officially announced that Francis Ngannou was no longer a fighter of the organization, and also announced a fight for the vacant championship belt between Jon Jones and Cyril Gan, who March will headline UFC 285 in Las Vegas.
