Conor McGregor’s trainer, John Kavanagh, has named four fighters that the Irishman’s team is considering as potential rivals.
“In order for Conor to start preparing for his next fight, he definitely needs to find something that motivates him a lot that will make him crawl out of his silk pajamas into a sweaty gym,” the Irish specialist said in the next edition of the MMA Hour program. “Does a few more million dollars motivate him? I do not think so. Rather, it will be a specific opponent, a specific set of skills that will go with his style.”
“We have a great Nate Diaz, obviously, and I think a fight with Justin Gaethje would be interesting too. Dustin Poirier, who we’ve shared the octagon with so many times it’s getting weird, and Michael Chandler, a great fighter and athlete. They are all brilliant contenders. All of them will bring something new to this confrontation.”
Moreover, Kavanagh is convinced that before the end of the year his ward will return to the octagon.
“I’m willing to bet my house on it. I actually spoke to him the other day and it looks like there are some interesting talks going on right now. I can’t say more, but I’m very confident that we’ll see Conor return to the octagon this year.”
