Colby Covington: “I’m the best fighter on planet earth.”

Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington shared his thoughts on his upcoming fight with current titleholder, Briton Leon Edwards, with whom he will share the octagon in three weeks.

“He’s been given the right fights at the right time to get him to where he is now,” MMA Fighting quoted the American as saying. “He fought lightweight scum Nate Diaz and then sat around for almost two years waiting for a title fight. I don’t think he deserved a title fight after beating that guy.”

“He kept crying, ‘I deserve this, I deserve that…’ instead of working hard and earning it like I did. I worked my way through a tough road to earn a title shot. He hasn’t faced adversity along the way, and he’s going to realize all of that on December 16 when he gets broken by the American dream.”

“After I beat him, you won’t see me crying or freaking out like I didn’t expect it. I’m ready and I know I’m the best fighter on planet earth right now in the UFC welterweight division. It’s going to be just like I expected it to be.”

“I had to sit idle for a long time and it wasn’t easy because I wanted to fight. I took every fight – against Hamzat Chimaev, against Dustin Porier, and against other guys I was offered in the UFC, but they didn’t want to fight. It made me even hungrier and I realized how much I love this sport. I only feel truly alive when I’m in the octagon. That’s the true meaning of my life.”

As a reminder, the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington will headline UFC 296, which takes place on December 16 in Las Vegas, and will be the organization’s last event of the current year.
