Colby Covington challenged Islam Makhachev’s No. 1 ranking in the UFC’s P4P rankings

UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington explained why he believes he is the best fighter in the world, regardless of weight class, and not Islam Makhachev, who tops the UFC’s P4P rankings.

“I don’t chase weight, I’m a real fighter,” the American said in another installment of the UFC embedded video blog. “I fight at my natural weight because I know I’m the best fighter in the world, not like Islam Makhachev who has to chase so much weight to get an advantage over midgets and beat them. That’s why I’m number one in the pound-for-pound rankings on planet Earth, because I fight at my natural weight class”

This weekend at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, Colby Covington will attempt to take the UFC welterweight championship belt from Britain’s Leon Edwards, while UFC lightweight titleholder Islam Makhachev will be in attendance as he continues to hope to challenge the winner.

The Russian last stepped into the octagon this October at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, knocking out Australian Alexander Volkanovski in the first round to retain the featherweight title.
