Coach Wilder: “I believe that only Deontay can beat Usyk”

Mentor Malik Scott believes that his ward American heavyweight puncher Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) is the only fighter in the division who can beat the current heavyweight leader of the unified world champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) .

Usyk’s team recently announced that the champion will fight not with Tyson Fury, but with Wilder.

comments Scott: “For me, as a coach, this is just the perfect alignment. After all, Deontay is a great fighter. I agree that after he brightly finishes with Robert Helenius (October 15 in New York), Usyk or Anthony Joshua should be his next opponent. We will only be satisfied with fights of this magnitude. I honestly believe that Deontay is the only heavyweight in the world who can beat Usyk. And, believe me, I have reasons to think so.

It should be noted that Scott knows Usyk perfectly, as he regularly comes to the Ukrainian’s training camps and helps in preparing for the fights as a sparring partner.

What impresses him about Wilder is his willingness to learn and constantly try new things. In recent years, I have seen that he is amazingly comprehensively developed. And now I want the whole world to see it. He’s not just a puncher. He brings the opponent to that final blow. He is very disciplined, strictly adheres to the plan for the fight. He fights not for himself and not for money. He motivates and inspires people. And that’s the reason he decided to keep performing.”

Wilder himself said: “Usyk’s words are music to my ears.” He had previously addressed the Ukrainian team: “You know where to find me.” And the puncher is sure: “I’m already in the Hall of Fame!”
