Charlo no longer claims to fight with Canelo – new plans for the champion

American WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has not entered the ring for over a year. The fighter claimed a financially profitable fight in the division above against the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez. There was also talk of possible bouts at 76.2 kg against compatriots David Benavidez and Caleb Plant.

According to Charlo, he made the decision to stay at middleweight. He says he was inspired by the example of his brother Jermell Charlo, who became the absolute division below: “Now they don’t seem to notice me in the division. And absolutely everything. But I’m not just a middleweight fighter. I am the WBC champion at 72.6 kg. And who has the other belts in this weight? I want to collect all the titles in the same way as my brother Jermell did earlier. I want to not just win unification fights. I want to be remembered as one of the best middleweights in the history of boxing.”

It will not be easy to make Jermall what he is talking about if you choose fighters like Maciej Sulecki as opponents – they were supposed to fight on June 18, but Charlo has an injury – the fight will take place later. Meanwhile, the WBC belt holder is offered another opponent. Oscar De La Hoya stated, “I hope Charlo grows eggs.”
