Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has opened up about the circumstances of the injury that led to the cancellation of the challenger fight against Benil Dariush.

“I couldn’t train after getting injured during wrestling training,” the Brazilian said in a video posted on social media. “I tried to continue training, I did everything in my power, but I couldn’t, and we had to withdraw from the fight”

“I need to stop training for a few days and then I will go back to the gym and we will reschedule the fight. I will resume the preparation process soon. I have a minor injury, and we decided to take a little delay so as not to fight injured. Once we made such a mistake, and I do not want to repeat it again. We are taking a step back in order to take two or three steps forward very soon.”

Recall that the fight between Charles Oliveira and Benil Dariush was supposed to take place on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark, but according to rumors, it will be moved to the card of the UFC 289 tournament, which will be hosted by Vancouver on June 10.
