The absolute super middleweight champion Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) in September in Las Vegas (USA) in the third fight with Kazakh Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) will try to close the May defeat – siganul in light heavyweight, but was beaten by the owner of the WBA Super belt, Russian Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs).

Canelo intends to fight again with the champion from the Russian Federation,
what he said at yesterday’s press conference: “I’m always learning. First of all, not on victories, but on defeats. After all, I am one of those who constantly wants to become better and better. Already twice reviewed the fight with Bivol. Obviously, the problem was fatigue. I tried to change something during the fight, but the body did not obey. But nothing. I keep moving forward. Rematch with Bivol? We’ll talk about him after I beat Golovkin.”

“No one likes to lose,” says the Mexican. “So immediately after the fight, I told promoter Eddie Hearn that I want a rematch with Bivol in September. But I had to fight Golovkin first. I’ll beat him first and then we’ll see. Have I changed my mind? Look, I don’t know where and when, but I definitely want to get even for the defeat.”

When Hearn was asked about Canelo’s next fight, the promoter decided to play it safe: “I think it’s up to Saul and (his trainer/manager) Eddie Reynoso. But now it’s time for the trilogy. I confirm that immediately after Bivol, Alvarez’s first reaction was: “I want a rematch. Give me a rematch.” Perhaps this is how all fighters react to defeat. But I think that postponing the rematch for a while and accepting instead a trilogy with Golovkin, which also has the title of undisputed super middleweight champion at stake, is the only right decision.

“A rematch with Bivol? If the Canelo team wants to have this fight in May 2023 or any other date, then Bivol, I am sure, will give the go-ahead and accept this challenge,” Hearn suggests.

The previous two fights between Alvarez and Golovkin were in the middleweight limit. At first there was a controversial draw, then the Mexican was a little better. For a veteran from Kazakhstan, the upcoming fight is a debut in a new weight. Yesterday he talked about this, and also about why Canelo was evil? Meanwhile, the Mexican said that the defeat of Bivol was painful and difficult, but it is necessary for greatness.
