In May, Canelo suffered his first loss since 2013 – he made an unsuccessful attempt to take away the WBA Super belt from Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs).
Star Expert ESPN channel Timothy Bradley thinks that defeat will only go
good for mexican: “It’s simple. Defeating a weak fighter will not make you stronger. In the same way, defeating an opponent to a strong opponent will not make you stronger either. Golovkin won’t count on Canelo getting worse after losing to Bivol. Understand that Alvarez thinks differently. This is a very proud fighter. Just imagine what is going on inside him, because he was the leader of the pound. I have no doubt that now he will return to his roots – return to the style of boxing that made him the best of the best.
“I expect Golovkin to be a completely different Canelo compared to Bivol. You could even say that this defeat will only make him stronger. Including mentally. He will correct all the mistakes made. I expect to see the best version of Canelo vs Golovkin. And I will repeat my prediction again – Canelo will win ahead of schedule. And if it doesn’t work out, then at least Golovkin will get it seriously. After all, Alvarez is younger, and he has excellent combinations, and he will box at his distance. I think it will not just be the best version of Canelo compared to the fight against Bivol, but one of the best versions in recent times,” Bradley suggests.
The expert reminds that “Canelo should not be judged only by the defeat of Bivol, because the Russian is really good. And I was one of the first to tell you about it before the fight. Will he be able to get even for the defeat? I’ll risk betting what I can. It’s Canelo after all. And I’m not a fool to bet against him.”
Earlier, WBO light heavyweight champion Joe Smith said that he bet on Bivol’s victory over Alvarez, won the money. And on the eve of the fight with Beterbiev, he spoke a little about Canelo: “He shouldn’t have!”
