In a conversation, the ex-champion spoke about the absolute super middleweight champion Mexican Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs), the unified champion from Canada Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs), the WBA super champion from Russia Dmitry Bivole (20 -0, 11 KOs), and also commented on the future third fight between Alvarez and the unified middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs).
— Let’s start with Artur Beterbiev. He has already unified 3 titles. Tell me how to win against Artur Beterbiev?
— [смеётся] Now Arthur is probably the most peak light heavyweight athlete. Because last year, in March, I was with Adam Daines in Moscow. It was also a very good fight. Adam lost in 10-11 rounds, but he got a good fight. He just wasn’t in the right physical condition to beat Arthur. And the last fight with Smith… He just ran over Smith in a tank, leaving no chance. In light heavyweight, I think Beterbiev has no equal now. On the reunion of all the belts, I wish him good luck, because he is really the best at the moment.
– And if there is a fight between Beterbiev and Bivol, who will you choose?
– Everything is going to this, that this fight will surely take place. I don’t know, for me Bivol is also a very good boxer, a very knowledgeable boxer. In the last fight he showed that he can. Well, yes, Canelo is already a little like that, my opinion is a bloated product. They made him a god. But Dima showed that he can. I will even say that he did it at idle, in my opinion. – Of course, there will be a tough fight, because Gene is 40 years old, as I said. Canelo is at the peak of his career right now. It will be a very interesting fight. I wish you victory, of course, Gene. Maybe he will gather his strength, won’t take many hits. It’s just that recently I noticed that he takes hits, for example, by 30%, and gives back – 70-80 percent. He’s already starting to change. He hadn’t done this before. He used to be younger, his reaction was better. Now the reaction is a little blunted. It is better for him to skip 30-40%, and give all 100, for example. I wish Gene victory, and we will watch.
