If Saul “Canelo” Alvarez gets a rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitri Bivol and it’s again in the same weight class as the first fight, the Mexican superstar could be scored early on his second try. So says Jose Benavidez Sr., coach of David Benavidez (he still won’t get the fight with Canelo).

“I believe that if Canelo again goes to fight Bivol at 79.4 kg, then, dare I say, he will be shortened in the last rounds,” said Benavidez Sr.
IZQUIERDAZO.

According to the coach, Saul began to decline, and this began to manifest itself even in the fight with Caleb Plant in November 2021. And the reason, Benavidez believes, is due to a combination of Canelo’s high activity and natural aging.

“Canelo is slowly decalibrating,” the source said. He did a great job, was very busy, but he did not have a normal time to rest. And yes, age also adds up. I believe that Saul gradually, step by step, exhausts himself in the hall before each fight. After the fight with Plant, I saw how he gradually faded, until these fights [с Биволом и GGG]”.

Usyk will beat Canelo in the same way as Bivol did – ex-champ

Because, says Benavidez Sr., Canelo’s retirement from the sport may not be far off.

“His body doesn’t react in the same way as before. At the moment he is the best in the pound, but perhaps his retirement could be very close. He no longer has that speed, that strength, and the reflexes are not the same, ”added the coach.

And, of course, in his opinion, because Alvarez does not want to fight his son David.

But Saul will fight with the British in May. Or not. He recently cited two reasons for Bivol’s defeat. And the legendary boxer knows how to win Alvarez in a rematch.
