Canelo Alvarez soundly defeated Jermell Charlo

Absolute world champion boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez successfully defended his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring titles in dominating style by dismantling Jermell Charlo, who is the absolute world champion at middleweight.

The bout, which headlined an evening of boxing at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, went the full distance, with the judges giving the Mexican the win twice by unanimous decisions of 119-108 and 118-109 at the end of twelve rounds. Throughout the match Canelo worked the first number one, forcing his opponent to the ropes, and in the seventh round he knocked the American down with a right jab.

After the fight, Saul Alvarez announced that he will fight next on May 5, when Mexico celebrates its national holiday “Cinco de Mayo”, while making it clear that the name of the opponent does not matter.
