Former undisputed lightweight champion Australian George Kambosos Jr. (20-1, 10 KOs) took away all the division belts last November from American Teofimo Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs), but lost in debut defense to Devin Haney (28- 0.15 KOs) from USA.

In October, Kambosos will try to regain what he lost in the rematch, and in the meantime, Lopez has already managed to make his debut in a new weight – at 63.5 kg – the gatekeeper from Mexico, Pedro Campa, was defeated without any problems.

Cambosos and Lopez are definitely not friends.
The Australian explains: “We always have good things with him, sometimes bad. I immediately put him in his place if he starts again looking for excuses for how he lost to me. Well, I’m proud of him. I’m really proud, and very proud. I think it’s very cool to return to boxing after such a tough fight that we had. This is what indicates that this dude is a real champion. So I wish him all the best at his new weight.”

On Lopez’s performance against Campa: “Let’s have some garlic. An opponent was specially selected for him so that he would regain and feel confident in his abilities. But in battles against the elite of the division, it will be much more difficult. I think he still has something to work on before reaching the strongest. But I’m sure he’s up to the challenge.”

Kambosos is confident that “in the future, Lopez and I will meet in a rematch. No problem. But not right now. Right now, all my thoughts are about rematching Haney.”

Meanwhile, the newly-minted world champion challenged Lopez: “You yourself spoke about it!” And the fighter, whom Teofimo was wooing before the fight with Kampa, spoke more categorically: the Dude needs to grow up and grow balls.
