Brian Ortega named two likely opponents

After defeating Yair Rodriguez early, former UFC featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega is ready to share the octagon with former division champion Alexander Volkanovski or challenge current belt holder Elijah Topuria.

“Wolf was a great champion – people have written him off, and I find that disrespectful given his accomplishments,” MMAJunkie quoted the American as saying. “We’ll see how it plays out, but if he decides he doesn’t want to fight and prefers to rest, I’ll be more than happy to go to Spain.”

Last weekend at UFC Fight Night 237 in Mexico City, Brian Ortega finished Yair Rodriguez with an arm-triangle choke in the third round, and the week before that at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Elijah Topuria took the championship belt from Alex Volkanovski by knocking out the Australian in the second round.

In September 2021, Brian Ortega made an unsuccessful attempt to take the title from Alex Volkanovski, losing to the then reigning champion by unanimous decision over five rounds.

Earlier, undefeated Russian welterweight Movsar Yevloev, ranked fifth in the division’s rankings, announced his desire to fight Ortega.
