UFC 285: Jones vs. Gane took place March 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion Bo Nickal (4-0) made his highly-anticipated UFC debut against fellow Contender Series product Jamie Pickett (13-9) on the night’s main card. The fight aired live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Round 1: Nickal comes out, and immediately throws a kick. But he slips on the ground and catches a clinch. He gets Pickett to the fence and Pickett is trying to fend him off but no joy. Pickett resists Nickal’s attempts to take Pickett down, but Pickett prevails. Nickal is now in a headlock for just a second.
Nickal and Scramble take the back That was quick! Nickal looking for the choke but Pickett staying game! Nickal abandons the choke and switches to an arm triangle. Pickett may still be on an angle for defense, but it won’t be long. Nickal adjusts and moves off to the edges of a half guard.
This is being tightened up by Nickal. But he’s not quite right. This is a control hold, but Pickett isn’t getting choked yet. Pickett is not giving up, but Nickal keeps at it and eventually gets the tap.
