Former world super middleweight champion Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) shared his emotions after the decision of the World Boxing Association (WBA) to appoint his fight against the holder of the WBA Super light heavyweight title (up to 79.4 kg) Russian Dmitry Bivol (20 -0, 11 KOs).

Recall that after moving to light heavyweight in 2019, Ramirez won five victories, including in a Candidates fight in May against German Dominik Bösel, who was knocked out in the 4th round.

“The beginning didn’t look encouraging, I was already sad and started to get angry,” Gilberto recalls his feelings when everything went to the fact that someone else would become Dmitry’s next opponent. “But now everything has changed. The timing is right and I’ll be ready to fight. I knew that it would take place, I was always sure of it – and I was not mistaken. I’m so glad, because this is a great opportunity. I’m getting ready!”

So far, Bivol has three successful title defenses with the “Super” prefix. He spent the last of them on May 8, confidently outboxing the best boxer at that time, regardless of the weight category, Canelo Alvarez.

To the point: “It’s been boiling with Ramirez for a long time.” Bivol’s interview on Canelo, Golovkin, Beterbiev and Smith
