Jose Benavidez Sr., coach of the unbeaten super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) from the United States of Mexican origin David Benavidez, strongly advises against the champion of the light heavyweight division (up to 79.4 kg) Russian Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) to agree to a rematch with the Mexican Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) at 76.2 kg.

Jose is confident that the transition to a lighter category will affect Bivol negatively, because of which Alvarez will be able to avenge the defeat in May last year.

“I will say it like it is: Bivol is not able to make 76.2 kg. Throughout his career, he performs at 79.4 kg – this is the reason. And I don’t think he should move down to super middleweight. He simply has no reason to, Benavidez Sr. is sure. If he does, he will feel weak. It will no longer be a real Bivol. His best weight is 79.4kg and even if there’s another fight with Canelo on the line, he shouldn’t go any lower because I think Canelo can beat him there.”

“Bivol (at 76.2 kg) will be emaciated and weak. He will no longer be able to box in the same way (as in the first fight), the specialist insists. But let them do what they want though. If they suddenly want to fight with us in 76.2 kg, we will not refuse. There is nothing to think about at all. My respect to Bivol, but this is business.”

Earlier it became known that Buatsi will refuse to fight Bivol.
