Bivol is not going anywhere, Hearn does not decide anything – De La Hoya reassured Ramirez

Boss Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya reassured his Mexican light heavyweight fighter Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs). He is the mandatory contender for the fight for the WBA Super title with Russian Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) and is worried that he may be deprived of this opportunity.

The thing is that promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) prefers to fight Bivolu with British prospect Joshua Buatsi (16-0, 13 KOs).

De la Hoya explainswhy Ramirez shouldn’t worry about it: “To begin with, Hearn is not Bivol’s promoter. And I am working with Bivol’s manager (Vadim Kornilov) and I know that the fight with Ramirez will be done, negotiations are about to begin. I am very happy that Gilberto will finally have the chance he has been waiting for.”

In May, Bivol made a big name for himself with a win over (at the time) P4P top Mexican super middleweight Saul Canelo Alvarez. He previously played for De La Hoya’s company, so Oscar does not mind mentioning the defeat of the ex-ward even for no reason: “I know that Ramirez is more than ready to beat Bivol and get even for Canelo and for all of Mexico. Soon we will know where and when the fight will take place. But this is one of the most anticipated fights in boxing today. And all why? Because Bivol beat Canelo effortlessly, without any tension at all. And Gilberto can get even for that.”

Ramirez said yesterday that “talks are already underway to fight him.” He also shared his opinion on the situation in heavyweight: the most difficult is Usyk, and the lightest is Joshua, he is a “glass”.
