The world champion in three prestigious versions in heavyweight Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) told why he initiated a free broadcast in Ukraine of his upcoming rematch on August 20 against Briton Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs).
Alexander proposes to spend the money that could have been spent on buying the broadcast on something useful – for example, send it to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight the army of Russian invaders.
— How important is it for you to show this fight for free for Ukrainian viewers?
– Very important. People must see, my Ukrainian people must see this fight. We are now at war, and we have where to spend money – to help the armed forces and people who need this help. So free broadcasting for the Ukrainian people is very important. Whatever money people could use to buy a broadcast, they can use to help someone else.
I want to help my people and my country, and I want this Saturday evening to be a small, maybe a big holiday for them. I will do everything in my power to demonstrate the best result.
Usyk also spoke about the assistance that his charitable foundation Usyk Foundation provides to the Ukrainian people at this difficult time for a country suffering from a barbarian invasion:
“I have a group of people who work hard to find families in need. Maybe they need some kind of home, some food, some money to spend on their families. They look for these people, they analyze their needs and help to meet these needs. This is what they do every day and will continue to do, because this is really the foundation’s mission.”
Previously, the goal of raising money by the Usyk Foundation was set: $1 million per 100 cars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
