Ben Askren is ready to resume his career

Former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren, who retired in 2019, is ready to resume his career after a five-year hiatus if UFC management offers him a rematch with Jorge Masvidal.

“I’ll say this right now – if Dana calls and says, ‘Jorge Masvidal, UFC 300 or International Fight Week,’ I’m going to forget about retirement and come out to fight. But only in MMA, because I suck at boxing,” the American said when speaking to Daniel Cormier.

In July 2019, Jorge Masvidal authored the fastest knockout in UFC history, finishing Ben Askren with a jumping knee strike as early as the fifth second of the fight. The former street fighter followed that up with an early victory over Nate Diaz, who was unable to continue the fight due to a severe dissection, and then suffered four straight losses, including two title defeats to Kamar Usman.

After losing a unanimous decision to Gilbert Burns last April, Jorge Masvidal announced the end of his professional career, however, a few days ago, the former BMF titleholder made it clear that he is ready to return to the octagon.

Following his loss to Masvidal, Ben Askren made an unsuccessful attempt to get his career back on track against Demian Maia, losing to the Brazilian by rear-naked choke in the third round before deciding to hang up his gloves. Askren made an unsuccessful professional boxing debut in April 2021, losing by knockout to blogger Jake Paul as early as the first round.
