British heavyweight Joe Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) beat New Zealander Joseph Parker (30-3, 21 KOs) over the weekend to win the WBO interim belt.
His compatriot Tony Bellew was so impressed with the performance that he began to talk about who in the division could stop Joyce. And WBA Super, WBO and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) is not on Bellew’s list. This is actually easy to explain.
“Do you know why Joyce is a problem for any heavyweight? —
reasoning Bellew. Because he won’t let go. Only one thing will help against him – a knockout. And who has the power to cut him down? I guess only Deontay Wilder and maybe Anthony Joshua. I’m not sure that even Tyson Fury could have timed it.”
“His best quality is tenacity. But it is on some other level. I never did. But not only resilience. He has cardio, quick wit and composure. Against Parker, he threw 800 punches. Let 600 of them be unaccented. But if you constantly beat the wall, then sooner or later it will collapse. That is exactly what he does. Sets a pace and density that no heavyweight has ever experienced before. Moreover, he does not respond to your best blows, he continues to pour, ”Bellew is shocked.
Tony says that he drew attention to Joyce at the European Amateur Championships: “I called him “Terminator Man” during the tournament. This ability to let go and keep pushing, it’s just intimidating. Do you know how it works in the ring? Do you know how a fighter feels when the opponent does not notice his best shots? It’s like it’s eating your soul. This is the easiest way to explain the Joyce phenomenon. He is a machine that devours human souls.”
Yesterday, the British prospect stated that only one dude can beat Usyk. He has a wide bone. Immediately after the victory, Joyce talked about who should be chosen next – Fury or Usyk? And he made his choice.
