Belal Muhammad reported difficulties with the weight cut

Less than two weeks away from his challenger fight with Gilbert Burns, Belal Muhammad is 19 pounds over the welterweight limit.

The fighter announced this in an interview with ESPN MMA.

“Usually by this time I weigh 177 pounds (80.2 kg), but now my weight is 190 pounds (86.2 kg),” said the American fighter. “Hopefully this won’t be a problem. I have several experiences with emergency weight loss.”

The five-round fight, which will take place on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark, was organized on short notice, and Muhammad’s team initially insisted that the fight be fought in the middleweight or catchweight category, however, Burns did not agree to this condition, stating that he would fight only in weight up to 170 pounds (77 kg).

Recall that the main event of the event will be a bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo.
