Aspinall promises to take Pavlovic on the sly

Tom Aspinall, the challenger for the UFC interim heavyweight championship belt, has revealed what tactics he will use in his upcoming bout against Russian knockout artist Sergey Pavlovic.

“I think it’s going to be a tough fight for both of us,” MMAnews quoted the Brit as saying. “You have to remember that I have the shortest average fight time in the UFC and he’s second in that metric. We’re both very explosive finishers. I have more early finishes from different positions and he has a lot of power in his hands.”

“It’s going to be a finish. I think I’m a lot smarter than him. My fight IQ is a lot higher than most guys I’ve fought before. I’m not going to stand across from him and exchange punches because that’s obvious suicide. I’m going to use my brains to outsmart him and win this fight.”

The previous day, UFC head honcho Dana White officially announced that the division’s reigning champion, Jon Jones, was injured and out of his fight against Stipe Miocic, and announced an interim title fight between Pavlovic and Aspinall to take place on Nov. 11 at UFC 295 in New York City.
