Aspen Ladd is released by UFC after latest weight mishap

Aspen Ladd was released by the UFC after seven fights with the promotion.

UFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.

The 27-year old fighter was just released after failing to gain weight to fight Sara McMann at UFC Vegas 60..

Ladd weighed 138 lbs, which is two more than the maximum for non-title bantamweight bouts. McMann’s fight was canceled. UFC President Dana White indicated afterward that the promotion was addressing the issue, though he didn’t say whether Ladd would be released.

Ladd’s struggle to lose weight throughout her UFC career has led her to have three bouts cancelled because she couldn’t reach the bantamweight limit.

Ladd looked trembling before she stepped onto the scale to weigh herself against Germaine De Randamie in 2019,. However, she gained weight. Ladd suffered an 16-second knockout defeat, though she said she was physically fit for the fight in spite of concerns about her weight.

The California State Athletic Commission suspended her bantamweight licence after she gained 18% of her bodyweight between the weigh-ins, and fight.

She was unable to lose weight in her scheduled fight against Macy Chiasson 2021, Ladd and she was also concerned about her health. She was then booked in a featherweight bout against Dumont and lost by decision.

This latest incident led to another fight cancellation and ultimately her exit from the UFC.

Once considered a promising prospect in the UFC’s bantamweight division, Ladd’s run with the organization comes to an end with an overall 4-3 record.
