British ex-world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) has long decided on a new coach, under whose leadership he will try to restart his career, but officially confirmed the choice only today.
So this is…
*drumroll*
…this, as our regular readers are already well aware, is the American specialist Derrick James, who has received the “Best Coach of 2022” award everywhere and by everyone.
Joshua travels to Texas, where he will train under James along with other mentor wards, including Errol Spence, Jermell Charlo, Frank Martin and others.
Prior to that, the Briton trained under the guidance of Robert Garcia. Together they had only one fight, in which Joshua lost and decided to end cooperation, despite the fact that Robert was ready and even wanted to continue.
Recall that the return of Anthony to the ring after two defeats in a row from the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for April 1 in London (England). His opponent will be American Jermain Franklin (21-1, 14 KOs).
“I want to put on a show and impress my coach, because he has high standards,” admitted the British ex-champion on the occasion of the official announcement that took place the day before.
And here is what Oleksandr Usyk thinks about the future of Anthony Joshua in boxing.
