UFC 269 co-main event
The fight will take place on December 12 in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) at the T-Mobile Arena and will become the co-main event of the UFC 269 PPV tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 06:30 am Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (21-4) will put her title on the line to take on No. 3 Julianne Peña (10-4).
Nunes hasn’t defended the UFC bantamweight title she’s held for over five years since December 2019, when she confidently beat Germaine de Randamie on points. Since then, Lioness has made two defenses of the UFC featherweight title, which she also currently holds. In June 2020, Nunes won a unanimous decision over Felicia Spencer, and in March at UFC 259, the Brazilian quickly forced Megan Anderson to surrender.
Peña was defeated by submission to Germaine de Randamie in October 2020. In January, the Venezuelan Vixens closed the loss with a 3rd round submission win over Sarah McMann. In May, Peña could have fought former UFC champion Holly Holm, but The Preacher’s Daughter withdrew from the fight due to hydronephrosis.
Prediction for the fight
Nunes is traditionally extremely dangerous on the stand, with deadly punching power, but she also excels on the ground, where she also has a penchant for finishing. Peña is also a versatile fighter, but in terms of class and physical power, she is clearly inferior to the champion.
In general, Peña does not look like a worthy opponent for the Lioness. If Nunes is sufficiently motivated, it is unlikely that she will be difficult to finish Peña. The champion can do this in the standing position or on the ground. Peña holds a punch well, so we assume that Nunez will stop her with a reception, besides, Julianna suffered her last two defeats by submission.
Nunes win by submission in the 2nd round
