Boxing superstar Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) is no longer the elite fighter he once was. So says Jose Benavidez Sr., father of David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs). Allegedly, this is why Canelo will never go against his son.
“With all due respect, he’s a wasted fighter,” José said.

The coach explained his opinion: “First we saw him with a knee injury, then he injured his hand. Now we see that Canelo is starting to drink, to enjoy life. He has every right to, because he was a very disciplined fighter.”
“I think he has a lot of activities right now and is not 100% focused on boxing. He plays golf, a sport that requires a lot of time and dedication. I think Canelo should stay in golf and start his career there. I heard he is very good at it, and there are no age restrictions for classes, ”he suggested to Alvarez.

Father Benavidez says Canelo “gave it all up against the elite opposition” and now all he has to do is fight opponents of the level of John Ryder or Edgar Berlanga: “He is no longer at the level to challenge elite opponents. He is left to fight those who do not pose any threat to him.
