The loss of Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) to Dmitri Bivol benefited a possible trilogy between Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), as now the boxing public will not consider it a mismatch.
This point of view was expressed by the British promoter Eddie Hearn in an interview with
iFL TV.
“It’s still a powerful fight,” Hearn said of the Canelo-Golovkin trilogy. – It’s funny enough that now the fight with Golovkin has become even bigger, because now people are giving Gennady a chance to win. Before that, it was something like: “Oh, he is already 39, he is already 40, he will not win this fight.” Now people look at this performance and say: “Well, ok, maybe Golovkin has a chance.” So it’s a big fight, as is the rematch with Bivol.”
Recall that before the defeat of Canelo, the trilogy with Golovkin was scheduled for September. Now Alvarez is more inclined towards revenge with the Russian offender.
