Aljamain Sterling vs Sean O’Malley scheduled for August

A bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley could take place on August 19 at UFC 292 in Boston.

This was announced at a press conference after the UFC 288 tournament by UFC President Dana White.

“Yes, it will probably be August,” the head of the organization said, answering a journalist’s question.

As for the fight that took place between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo, in which the reigning UFC champion won a split decision, White made it clear that he agreed with the judges’ verdict.

“According to my calculations, Aljo won, but it was a very close fight. Henry gave an incredible performance. You know I believe in downtime rust, but not only did he go five rounds against a tough guy who outsized him, he looked really impressive.”

In a five-round bout that headlined the Newark number event, the judges scored twice with a score of 47-48 and 48-47 for Aljamain Sterling, who after the fight had a battle of views with Sean O’Malley, who occupies second place in the division.
