Aljamain Sterling plans to beat Movsar Yevloyev in the title race

Former UFC flyweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who will next make his debut in the organization’s featherweight division, believes a convincing win over Kelvin Kattar will help him surpass the winner of a potential challenger matchup between Movsar Yevloyev and Arnold Allen in the title race.

“One of the first names that was called was Arnold Allen, and I think I could have gotten that fight, but the cards didn’t match up,” MMAnews quoted the American as saying. “Arnold ends up fighting Movsar Yevloyev, and I think this fight plays into my favor.”

“If I beat Kattar, and I look good doing it, and Alex Volkanovski beats Elijah Topuria, depending on who wins the Allen-Yevloyev pairing, and how that fight goes, I think I could be the next title challenger.”

As a reminder, Movsar Evloev and Arnold Allen will fight on Jan. 20 at UFC 297 in Toronto, a title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Elijah Topuria will headline UFC 298 in Anaheim on Feb. 17, and Aljamain Sterling and Kelvin Kattar will share the octagon on April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.
