Reigning UFC flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja, will make another title defense on May 4 at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian said this in an interview with Flamengo, and the information was later confirmed by his trainer, Marcos DaMatta.
“He is training again and will defend his title in May in Rio de Janeiro,” the Brazilian told MMAJunke.
That said, the most likely candidate to fight the Brazilian is former division champion, Brandon Moreno, who has a bout with Brandon Royval scheduled for February 24.
“I believe that if Moreno wins in Mexico City, the UFC will try to make a fourth fight with Moreno,” DaMatta said. “The only problem I see is that there are only 10 weeks between Feb. 24 and May 4. The first and last weeks don’t count, so he’ll have eight weeks to prepare for the fight. Hopefully Moreno doesn’t get injured and we can make it in Brazil.”
Last July, Alexandre Pantoja took the UFC championship belt from Brandon Moreno with a split decision victory, and in December, the Brazilian made a successful title defense with a unanimous decision win over American Brandon Royval.
